Photos Taken Somewhere in or Between Tioga Co., Pennsylvania, and Ocean City, Maryland

For a brief period of time in 2003 I had a mint condition Yashica-Mat. I put maybe 36 rolls through it before it was stolen. Until recently, I hadn’t examined many of the images I had taken, primarily in Northern, PA, Lancaster Co., Baltimore, MD, and Ocean City, MD, until recently when I had the [...]

Discreet Sculptural Interventions Created on a Regular Basis by my Mother at her Office During Lunch Breaks and Other Periods of Downtime

I think the title just about says it all. For now I’m just posting some of the images my Mom (Terri J. Pfeiffer) has sent me, and will continue to add more, but am not settled on a particular format to present them aside from this website. I’m sure that we’ll be discussing such things [...]

Photos Taken from My Bed

Upon moving into my new apartment, and with the intent of creating a small project requiring minimal effort, I decided to develop a photo series from my own bed.

Recreation of an Object I Made as a Child

At the age of about eight years old, I created a strange little object—one that he tried to keep hidden from other people. It seemed to lack any specific utility for me, yet when it was discovered by a younger brother in the months to follow, the resulting emotional distress proved great enough to secure a clear and fixed memory of the experience that continues in my mind to this day, almost twenty-five years later.

Portland Silver

Portland Silver comprises objects of varying uses and materials that were collected from staff and visitors during a one-night event at the Portland Art Museum in Fall 2009. The collection grew mostly from the random contents of people’s pockets, bags and wallets, as many visitor’s had no prior knowledge of the project before that night’s [...]

Stories!!!!

On a recent trip to the thrift store I found this anthology of stories written and published by an 8th grade Portland public school class. It was produced in 1991, which makes the then students about my age now. I will attempt to contact as many of these students as possible with the hope that [...]

Stick

A dark coming-of-age story focused on the increasingly desperate actions of a drug-addicted youth. Screenplay v3.4, written May 2009. Read an excerpt or download the full script.

Theresa

Screenplay v2.3, written May 2009. Read an excerpt or download the full script.

My Block

A form of “photo prostrations” depicting the perimeter of a city block. Created by photographing the curb inch-by-inch, stitching 500+digital images.

Derek Tracing the Bottom of My Feet

My friend Derek agrees to trace the cracks, welts, and callouses on the bottoms of my feet.

Tracings

Baby oil stained sheets of notebook paper make a form of homemade tracing paper that is used to create erotic drawings of male models, mostly from major print media advertising sources (e.g. underwear ads from department store circulars, newspaper sports sections, even my middle-school yearbook).

Natural Acts

“Jason Zimmerman’s series “Natural Acts” continues his photographic exploration of incidental evidence supplied by the physical world.”

Spotting

This video footage of my father, his friend, and me “spotting” for white-tailed deer in northern Pennsylvania was shot in late-fall2006. Spotting is a popular activity to do just before the hunting season begins.

Photo Album

Images of a photo album found in a thrift store. The photos have been removed, presumably by the previous owners or store staff, but the labels still remain.

Steer

The exuberant cheers of the off camera sixth graders, on a school field trip in rural Virginia, can be heard as a constant “in camera” soundtrack for this short clip filmed from a hayride.

Project Proposal: Wasp Nest

1- In late spring a solitary queen wasp emerges from hibernation. 2- A protein trap, bated with liver, attracts the insect. 3- The queen is introduced into a confined environment where sustenance and a tree-like wooden apparatus are the only items provided. 4- She constructs the initial segment of the nest and [...]

Adjoining Plots

Photo documentary: couples purchase adjoining grave sites and when one dies only the DOB of the other is carved on the headstone–I revisit the sites until both dates are inscribed.

The Demolition

Among other things, consider The Demolition to be a piece that offers the viewer an opportunity to reflect on the strong symbolic power of the home. Filmed on location in Washington, D.C., this video documents the systematic destruction of an old mansion under a blue sky.

Rape the Willing

The substance of this project, 100+ color laser prints of email responses, originated by means of a solicitation on a common social networking website. A short request for a supposed rape fantasy was posted in personals forums all over the United States—including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. The words “rape me” formed the bulk of the content.

Fair Game

The video Fair Game was crafted after many hours spent by the artist culling through over one hundred and fifty episodes of Fox Broadcasting Company’s reality-based television program COPS. In the process, all of the foot pursuit segments available in those episodes were extracted and then edited into one continuous looped sequence.

Passport Remnants

This is an ongoing collection of the discarded photographic material retrieved from retail stores that have taken passport/identification portrait requests.

Luck

Found lottery tickets are forged into winners, digitally reproduced, and placed back in the location of the original ticket.
